CHARACTER INFO

NAME: Frieren
SERIES: Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
CANON POINT: End of the anime
AGE: 1,000+

CHARACTER SUMMARY:
Frieren is a very old elven mage from a world inhabited by monsters, demons and other magic users and "ordinary" humans. She's spent over a thousand years wandering the world and was the student of one of the very first and greatest human mages. More recently, she was a part of a party of heroes who defeated the Demon King and ushered in an age of peace. However, she doesn't tend to let that get to her head - in fact, she genuinely doesn't comment on it unless asked. She's generally taciturn and relatively unassuming and a little closed off around others. She might even be described as a little awkward. However, she has a well of kindness and thought for others under her cool exterior - as well as some remaining childish sensibilities, including the tendency to sleep in very late if she's allowed to and a crippling addiction to playing the odds when it comes to mimics.

She is, however, quite powerful - one of the most powerful mages still living and has an arsenal of spells at her disposal. Despite that, she tends not to use magic for her own self-aggrandizement. She'd much rather travel the world and collect interesting spells, like a spell that creates a field of flowers. Or a spell that will clean a statue or a pot. Useful things. Magic is meant to be fun, after all.

POWERS:
Magic
This is a bit all encompassing and mostly covers most of what Frieren can actually do. She's a very powerful mage and while this isn't quite defined in the series, her age means she has a great deal of mana to draw on from herself and consequently means she can cast spells and maintain her magic for a relatively long time. In addition, she's a skilled mage simply by virtue of long experience - she does have a fatal weakness in that she very minutely and temporarily drops her guard while casting, but one would have to be quite skilled at reading the fluctuations of her mana to exploit it. So far, only a few people have even been able to detect it, let alone exploit it.

Her powers include the ability to sense or see the flow of mana in the world and in others, which she can read to get an idea of their power and skill and understand what kind of magic they're using or intend to use. In addition (and perhaps most importantly) she has spent her entire life suppressing her own mana so that very few people understand how powerful she is at a mere glance. It's born of long practice and simple habit and allows her to pass relatively unnoticed, especially by the demons of her world.

Her magic includes several different abilities that she seems to be able to cast at will, when she has sufficient mana:

-Levitation or flying: this can be applied to herself, to other objects, or other people and can be used to prevent fatal falls, to travel or to simply move heavy objects.

-Defensive magic: this takes the form of a grid or hexagon pattern that will absorb or deflect attacks, usually other magic, and prevent serious bodily harm. Sufficiently powerful or skilled attacks can break through it and wound or harm or even kill her. This seems to be near instinctive for her.

-Offensive magic: she has a variety here. The most common is a simple attack spell, derived from demonic magic and which takes the form of one or more beams that can be controlled and maneuvered. They appear to cause massive damage to inanimate and living beings alike, like a sort of death ray or laser. Additionally, she has access to other offensive spells, including what seems to be a miniature black hole, some sort of energy lightning storm, and animation of stone golems or servants. Given time, she seems to be able to use her magic to shatter large magical barriers as well. She has a lot of raw power given her age.

-Other: this includes things like creating a field of flowers, cleaning statues or pots, finding lost objects, capturing birds (at very close range), and other small "folk" magic. This tends to be her favorite, although not everyone seems to agree with her on its use.

In Kenos, the destructive capacity of her magic will be capped out - at best such spells will only damage large buildings and will take repeated "shots" to cause widespread property damage or impact larger areas of effect.

GAME INFO

ASPECTS:
Savant:
Frieren certainly possesses many of the core traits of the Savant; she is inquisitive, adaptable, interested in learning, and has her own sense of imagination (even if it differs from others). She has also taken to being inspired by and inspiring others; she has nurtured a student and tried to help them grow - and she's done the same for others in her journey. She enjoys helping others figure out problems and is willing to help them with that. However, she also tends to get a bit sidetracked at times in favor of "solving" things and can be embarrassed about small items. She is not a perfectionist, but is more interested in learning for the sake of learning and acquiring knowledge because it's fun.

Harbinger:
Frieren can also embody the Harbinger; she has a tendency to keep her emotions and motivations close to her chest (although this may be more out of simply not quite grokking how to connect properly with words than any real need to be innately mysterious) and has a strong sense of personal motivation. She knows who she is and what she wants to do with her life and she takes joy in that. The fact that others may not always understand or agree with it isn't really her problem. She can, at times, manipulate people in an effort to teach. It's never quite malicious, but might be seen as such at times. She also tends to feel like she's carrying on the weight of the past - although she does not necessarily see this as a burden so much as a lived experience that she is passing forward and trying to learn from.

ANTICIPATED FACTION:
Frieren is more drawn towards Zenith; this is partially because of her life experience. She is a long-lived elf. Almost immortal in a lot of respects. She has lived a thousand years or more and has seen humans come and go. They are (were) her dear friends and she's learned to love them and to carry forward what she's learned from them, even if there's sorrow in the loss. In that regard, she sees Zenith as aligning with that aspect of her lived experience - you cannot bring back the dead, no matter how much you may wish to. They have lived, they have impacted you, and they are gone. This extends to the world she has now lost. She will mourn it, she will accept that sorrow, and she will try to carry all of it in her heart if she is to be destined to survive it.

SUITABILITY:
Frieren is inquisitive by nature and has spent part of her life adventuring and digging into magic simply for the fun of it. This is likely something to carry her in good stead in Kenos; while there's less magic to dig up, she will be interested in finding out about this new world, how it ticks, and what exactly is going on underneath the surface. Because obviously there's some stuff that needs finding out! And if she can enhance her own knowledge while she's at it, so much the better. She's also the sort of person to want to help - in direct or indirect ways - so she'll definitely lean towards helping the inhabitants as well.
